Grifola Frondosa (Maitake) Polysaccharide

The main active ingredient of Grifola frondosa is preteoglucan, mainly in the form of dextran with basic structure of -(16) and-(13) dextran, and small amount of xylose and mannose.

Reasearches revealed Grifola frondosa polysaccharide plays its anti-tumor role via enhancing cellular immunity. On the genetic level,it has powerful inhibition of mutation caused by chemicals It can be used in the comprehensive treatment of lassitude, leukocytopenia ,and reduced immunity due to chronic hepatitis and radio-chemotherapy for malignant tumors. It also has certain preventive role for AIDS. Oral intake of Grifola frondosa polysaccharide is both safe and effective.

Additional Information

Maitake Mushroom

Maitake Mushroom (Grifola frondosa) may best be known for its cancer-fighting properties. It contains grifolan, an important beta-glucan polysaccharide (molecule composed of many sugar molecules linked together). Grifolan has been shown to activate macrophages, a type of cell consider the “heavy artillery": of the immune system. One of the polysaccharides in maitake mushroom also energized the cellular immune system.

The evidence confirming maitake's therapeutic value - both in and out of the laboratory - is impressive. Laboratory studies have shown that maitake extract can block the growth of cancer tumors and enormously boost the immune function of people with cancer.

Maitake mushroom was found effective against leukemia and stomach and bone cancers. Responses were further improved when maitake D-fraction and chemotherapy were used together. Individuals receiving maitake D-fraction also experienced relief from the side effects of chemotherapy, such as loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, hair loss, and deficiency of white blood cells.

Other Benefits of Maitake Mushroom

People with Type 2 Diabetes may also benefit from maitake mushroom. A specific, high-molecular polysaccharide was found in maitake called the X-fraction. Mice given maitake had an increased ability to recognize glucose, and the control group had higher blood glucose levels. The researchers suggested that maitake mushroom can reduce insulin resistance, thereby increasing insulin sensitivity. The X-fraction appears to be the active compound with anti-diabetic properties.

In addition, many doctors in Far East use maitake mushroom to lower blood pressure and blood lipids, two key risk factors in cardiovascular disease.

Agaricus Blazei Muril (ABM)

In the seventies, two researchers from Penn State visited the Sao Paulo, Brazil area and discovered the local natives to be extremely healthy with a very low rate of disease.
The longevity rate was disproportionately high with people living well over 100.
Their secret? It was a simple mushroom, they told the researchers, the agaricus mushroom (Agaricus Blazei Murill or ABM).

Agaricus blazei is a variety of mushroom purported to have anti-carcinogenic potential. Research conducted with Agaricus blazei extract indicated that it can topically and orally prevent lesions associated with skin cancer, as well as inhibit the growth of various human tumor cell lines in vitro. Research out of the Universidade Estadual de Londrina in Brazil indicated that in addition to possessing anti-carcinogenic potential, an extract of Agaricus blazei exhibited antimutagenic effects in vitro.

Agaricus Blazei mushroom is widely recognized as an exceptional natural supplement for its claimed anti-cancer and immunity enhancing effects, to the point where it is used for AIDS treatment. In Japan, intensive research has been done with guinea pigs reveal that the mushroom prevents cancer development 99.4% and cures cancer 90.0%. Now, several active ingredients have been identified.

Normally, the polysaccharides found in fungus only affect solid cancers, however the polysaccharide in Agaricus Blazei is effective against Ehrich's ascites carcinoma, sigmoid colonic cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate, and liver cancer as well as against solid cancers.

The studies in Japan showed Agaricus Blazei to be 80% more effective than the world's number one cancer drug, PSK. It contains much higher levels of beta glucans than the other medicinal mushrooms (Maitake, Shiitake, and Reishi). It stimulates NK (Natural Killer) cell activity at a rate higher than MGN-3.

There are large numbers of patients for whom there are no effective allopathic treatments or for whom the available therapies are either poorly tolerated or only partially helpful. A physician who has the knowledge to help these patients is working with a tremendous advantage
